Today Cook viewed the sunrise at the Grand Canyon!
We spent the night at the "historic" hotel El Tovar inside the Grand Canyon National Park. The hotel is pretty old, by US standards, having been built in the early 1900s. Inside the hotel is pretty nice, designed like a big wooden lodge. The room that we had was cramped and really quite dingy. The service there was pretty poor also. Still, the hotel had two redeeming features...great dinner & breakfast and the location!
El Tovar is situated right on the rim of the Canyon. That's a big plus if you want to see the sunrise, because the walk from the hotel entrance to the rim of the Canyon takes just seconds!
Sunrise really is spectacular. When the first rays of the morning sun hit the rocks of the Canyon, they glow a gorgeous copper colour. It's a wonderful sight, watching the sun creep higher in the sky and see the shadows of the peaks inside the canyon drag across the jagged landscape carved by nature. |
